THE ACS STATE TOURNAMENT

This event is only 3 years old, yet it has paved a new future for Billiards in Oklahoma.!  At the State level we introduced 4 player Teams, Scotch Doubles, and Juniors.  We opened a third division of competition  the Standard Division:.  We hosted the first $10,000 event at the Osage Casino along with opening up new league systems across the state:.  We have encouraged existing leagues to dual sanction with the ACS, thereby giving their players the opportunity to play in several other events year round while never having to change how your league does business.  So, in keeping true to form, the ACS State Board met to make plans for our next big event.  We reviewed last year’s national tournaments along with State and Regional tournaments in our area.  Every event, no matter how great, has the same downfall – the one thing that spreads more bad press than anything– we try to cram into 4 days what should take place on 4 weekends So why not have 4 separate tournaments – 9-Ball, Team, Scotch Doubles and Singles – spread throughout the year!  Everyone agreed that it would allow you the player to concentrate on one event at a time; it would be easier to set match times so  the event your match times were not scheduled close together you could leave and come back; and players would not be so exhausted at the end of the tournament.  We decided to have one open team division and allow only one Master on a team.  You say, “What about the masters who want to play together as a team?”  We say, at this point in time, there are not enough women masters to make 4 teams or men masters to make 6 teams, so we are hoping that the masters will still choose to play, as there are some really super open players for you to match up with.!  Please bear in mind that this idea will come into play for the 2008 / 2009 season. In the end we will have determined, with your feedback, if the idea was goo

d (keep it) or not good (scratch it).  These 4 events are brought about through the efforts of your Oklahoma League Directors.  There is no compensation for their hard work except to better the playing field and for the Love Of The GamePlease feel free to help them.
